Terms of service
Last updated:
The short version. Your data is yours. Use Lipi honestly and keep your password safe. Lipi helps you keep track of money; it is not financial advice. The Free plan is free; Premium is Rs 1 or $1 a month. We give you 30 days’ notice before prices or these terms change in a way that matters.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Lipi Technology of Nepal (“Lipi”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Lipi app at app.lipi.com.np, the website at lipi.com.np, and the related services (“the Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Lipi.
Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data. It is part of these terms.
Who can use Lipi
- You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under the age of legal adulthood where you live, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to these terms for you.
- You may have one personal account. Accounts are for one person and must not be shared.
- You must give accurate sign-up information and keep your email address up to date, because that is how we reach you about your account.
- You may not use Lipi if you have been banned from it before, or if the law forbids you from using it.
Your account and security
You are responsible for keeping your password and devices secure, and for what happens under your account. Use a strong password that you don’t use anywhere else. If you think someone else has access to your account, change your password, sign out of your other sessions and tell us at [email protected] straight away.
The service
Lipi helps you record and organise your personal finances: expenses, income, accounts, budgets, loans, assets and, on Premium, invoices. We are constantly improving it, so features may be added, changed or removed. If we remove a feature you pay for, we will tell you in advance.
We work hard to keep Lipi available and your data safe, but we can’t promise the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or available at any particular time. Planned maintenance, outages and events beyond our control can happen.
Plans and payment
- Free costs nothing and has no time limit. Its limits are shown on our pricing section.
- Premium costs Rs 1 or US$1 a month (your choice of currency), plus any taxes that apply.
- While Premium is paid manually (for example by bank transfer, eSewa or Khalti), it does not renew automatically. It lasts for the period you paid for.
- Price changes: we will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email and in the app before a price change applies to you. It will not affect a period you have already paid for.
- Refunds: if you’re not happy, ask within 7 days of paying and we will refund you. Your legal rights to a refund, where you have them, are not affected.
- Downgrading or expiry: if Premium ends, your account moves to Free. We never delete your data because of a downgrade. Records that need Premium stay visible but become read-only until you upgrade again.
Your data is yours
You own everything you put into Lipi: your records, notes and attachments (“your content”). To run the Service, you give us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, copy, process and display your content, only to provide Lipi to you and as described in our privacy policy. That licence ends when your content is deleted, apart from the backup periods described in the privacy policy.
You can export your data at any time. You are responsible for your content, and for having the right to any information about other people that you add, such as a client’s details on an invoice.
Acceptable use
When you use Lipi, you agree not to:
- break the law, or use Lipi to plan, record or support fraud, money laundering or other illegal activity;
- send invoices or other documents from Lipi that are fraudulent, misleading or harassing;
- upload malware, or content that is illegal, or that infringes someone else’s rights;
- try to access another person’s account or data, or probe, scan or test the Service’s security without our written permission;
- scrape, crawl or copy the Service with automated tools, or overload it;
- reverse engineer the Service, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- resell or sublicense the Service, or create accounts by automated means;
- get around plan limits, rate limits or a suspension.
Not financial advice
Lipi is a record-keeping tool. Reports, totals, budgets, exchange rates, asset valuations and loan or EMI calculations are for information only. They depend on what you enter and on third-party data that may be delayed or wrong. Nothing in Lipi is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Check important figures yourself, and speak to a qualified professional before making financial, tax or investment decisions.
Third-party services
Some features rely on other companies, such as Google for sign-in, or an AI provider for optional receipt scanning when it is available. Their own terms apply to your use of their services, and we are not responsible for them. If you use your own API key with a provider, you are responsible for your agreement with that provider and any charges it makes.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Lipi at any time and ask us to delete your account. Your data is erased within 30 days, as described in the privacy policy. Export anything you want to keep first.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or if your use puts other users or the Service at risk. Where it is reasonable and legal, we will tell you why and give you a chance to fix the problem or export your data first. If you think we got it wrong, email [email protected].
If we ever decide to shut Lipi down, we will give you at least 60 days’ notice so you can export your data.
The sections on your data, not financial advice, disclaimers, liability, and disputes continue to apply after your account ends.
Our intellectual property
Lipi’s software, design, logo and name belong to Lipi Technology. These terms give you the right to use the Service as it is meant to be used. They don’t give you any other rights in it. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
Disclaimers
Apart from what these terms expressly promise, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so they may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue or data, arising from your use of the Service.
- Our total liability to you for all claims about the Service is limited to the greater of (a) what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and (b) NPR 5,000.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your rights as a consumer under mandatory law where you live.
Indemnity
If you use Lipi for business purposes and a third party brings a claim against us because of your content or your breach of these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from it. This does not apply to you as a consumer where the law forbids it.
Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Nepal. If you have a problem, please contact us first at [email protected]. Most issues can be sorted out quickly, and we will try in good faith to resolve yours within 30 days.
If we can’t resolve it, the courts of Kathmandu, Nepal have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, the United Kingdom, India or anywhere else that gives you mandatory consumer protections, you keep those protections. You may also bring a claim in the courts where you live, if that law allows it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Lipi changes. For material changes, we will tell you by email and in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using Lipi after that, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, you can close your account before they take effect. Smaller changes, such as clarifications, take effect when we publish them.
General
- These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
- If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up.
- You may not transfer these terms to someone else. We may transfer them to a company that takes over Lipi, and we will tell you if that happens.
- These terms may be offered in more than one language. If versions differ, the English version prevails.
